Get Your Happy On!

I love The sound of a baby’s laughter! The little things like peek-a-boo or a silly sound that can bring out about that deep belly laughter that is contagious.
The older we get, the less we laugh at the simple things. We have been worn by life. Hardened by our disappointments and loss. Sure, we still laugh but that deep belly laugh is hard to come by.
We carry so many burdens & walk through places of stress and terrible heartache, so what do we do “be happy?” Remember, the song, Don’t Worry, Be Happy?” It sounds simple enough. Why is it so hard?
I believe one remedy to living a life of happy is to “Get Your Happy On.” Ephesians 6:11 says, to “put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness.” In other words, you have to put it on in order to change your heaviness or sadness. I like to see it as putting on a coat. Once I do that, I have covered myself from the elements and provided myself with warmth, protection & even comfort. I believe it requires the effort of putting it on. It requires a choice to make an exchange. If I want to live in misery, all I have to do is remind, rehearse & tell myself what is wrong, what I can’t do and how bad it is. If I want to live happy, I have to choose to be a Phil. 4 type of person.
“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.” Philippians 4:6-9. Msg.
There is something so powerful about meditating, rehearsing, and declaring God and His goodness. When I begin to declare who God is and how faithful He is to bring me through, I feel a sense of joy knowing He’s got me! I get full of happy when I rehearse & remind myself of the blessings God has given me. The life that I have because of His Son! I fill myself up on His promises for me. I drink in the new wine of His Spirit that heals & brings me joy! Joy remains when we meditate on the good and not the bad.
I challenge you today to take few moments and be thankful, to speak out God’s grace on your life and create an atmosphere of joy! It may feel like it isn’t possible but creating a habit of praise & thanksgiving, will create an atmosphere of joy instead of a cloud of a despair! Get your happy on!
